About Us

The Alcohol Calculator (BAC Calculator) is an online tool that estimates the concentration of alcohol in your body and shows you how long it takes to get sober. However, please note that the results are only indicative and this alcohol calculator cannot be considered proof of fitness to drive.

Our Mission

Our goal is to be the primary source of all alcohol-related information in Croatia—from understanding the effects of alcohol to knowing drink-driving limits.

We strive to provide accurate and reliable information to help people make informed decisions about alcohol consumption and responsible driving.

A key part of our mission is the Alcohol Calculator, a tool designed to estimate Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) and provide an estimated time to sobriety based on your drinking habits.

By providing both informational resources and practical tools, we aim to promote awareness, safety, and responsible alcohol consumption in Croatia.

How we calculate your BAC

This tool estimates your Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) using the Widmark formula, which forensic toxicologists have used since 1932:

BAC = (A ÷ (r × W)) − (β × t)

  • A — grams of pure alcohol. In Croatia, one standard unit contains approximately 10 g (the number varies by country).
  • r — Widmark factor or the proportion of water in the body: approximately 0.68 for men and 0.55 for women.
  • W — your body weight.
  • β — the rate at which the body burns alcohol, on average about 0.15 ‰ per hour (adjustable in the calculator).
  • t — hours from the first dose.

Since elimination is almost linear, the same formula also estimates how long it takes for your BAC to return to zero. The result is only an estimate: stomach contents, medications, hydration, health, and individual metabolism change the actual value, so it can never be used as proof of sobriety.
